What do you know already about India?Have you heard of any Indian People? Can you picture and describe their clothes, makeup, jewellery, hairdos, footwear, accessories? Geography of India? What about India's history? When do we hear about India in the news? It's OK to write on more than one entry. As the discussion opens up you will remember more, so get as much out of your brain as you can before we start our unit. IP: Logged |

It's population is second only to that of China. [This message has been edited by cecilia (edited 05 October 2001).] IP: Logged |

Some people don't like Indian food because it can be spicy but I love it. THey like rice and noodles and other yummy things! [This message has been edited by angel_663 (edited 04 October 2001).] ************************
Angel_663, you are right about rice being an important staple food in India. It is grown and eaten in the southern part of the country. In the north, they grow wheat. Refugee week is coming up at school soon. Listen to the Memo soon and you will hear about how you can partake of a communal rice meal. I don't really know much about the Indian culture. My best friend is from India and when I stay with her they cook Indian, dress Indian and they even talk in some of the Indian language to each other so i guess i know a little. I know some of the religions such as Hinduism and Buddism. They like to eat hot curries and rice. Women and young girls usually wear long dresses called Saris. They also like to wear sandals. ************************* Thank you for those insights, Touch theMoon*. You may be interested to check out the Hindi words link I've created for our unit.

In primary school there was an indian girl in my class and she shared her bindi decorations and she painted complicated bindis on us. I know that indian women love to wear jewellery. The cows are very sacred and if someone catches a taxi and there's a cow in the middle of the road, the driver must wait for the cow to move! IP: Logged |

This post is by Furby********************** I think that compared to Indias society we are more fortunate with all our clothes and houses and so on. I dont really like what they wear, i think that they wear silky cloths and some of the ladies have them red dots on their heads. I know that their food is good because i went to a India restaraunt and the food was great. I dont think i would like to ever go to India only because i think it would be a bit boring but i cant say anything because i have never been there. IP: Logged |

I have heard of Deli Belly sickness which just about every tourist will get when they visit India. There are millions of people who live in India and it is very crowded. Indians just love thier cricket stars like Tendulkar and Harbajan Singh. The Taj Mahal is famous in India. India is extremely hot and humid in summer and can get very smelly in hot weather. India is a diamond shaped country in Asia. ****************** Lulu14, do you know the capital of India? Clue: it has something to do with the illness you mentioned above, which is spelled Delhi Belly. [This message has been edited by cecilia (edited 05 October 2001).] IP: Logged |

There are some princesses who live in india and they are extremely rich. It is really hot so they wear light clothes. I'm not sure if i'm right but i think they travel around on donkeys. IP: Logged |

I don't know much about India but here is what i do know: India is situated in Asia. They have 3 main seasons, apart from the Himalayan region in the north, most of their climate is very tropical. India's money is the rupee. India has a well-known cricket team. Indian women wear brightly coloured sari's or sarongs (i think) they wear golden jewellery and bindi's on their forehead

Message from starrie**************** I know that India is situated in the middle-east, next to Pakistan, Afghanistan, China and Nepal. I have heard about India in the news lately because of the Terrist attacks in America. Also I know that India is very populated. That is about all I know but I hope to learn more. ******************
Starrie, I believe westerners call the Indian sub-continent the far east, not the middle east. That is something we can check on together as we read for information. [This message has been edited by cecilia (edited 05 October 2001).] IP: Logged |

India is located in Asia. India does not have traffic lights. they travel around in carts, bikes and i think on the back of donkeys. India is a hot country so they wear light clothes eg. silk and cloth. they eat noodles and rice with chop sticks. Most of them are poor but some are rich like princess'. india is a very dry country and it doesn't have much water. They live in small houses.IP: Logged |
